This tutorial is intended to guide you through the process of installing the X-cuter 2 Lite mod in your X Box console.

Make sure that you read all of the info before you start, and set aside an hour if you've never fitted one before to avoid any foul ups. (Getting rid of the wife and kids also helps….)

If you prefer, you can send your X box to us where we will fit the Mod for you. You can also buy your PS 2 from us fully chipped and Guaranteed for 3 Months.

PSX Services will not be held responsible if you open up your console and make a pigs ear of it!!!!!!

A: This socket is for two wires. Ground and the d0 onboard flash disable point. Only 1 wire needs to be soldered here as the ground point will be a screw on clip. The reason these two wires are on a separate socket is so if you connected to the board via the PIN HEADER ADAPTER (B) you would never need to solder ever again - you simple unplug. The female pins will also be included in the package.

B: This is the PIN HEADER Block. This was to put this onto the PCB instead of a separate adapter for a number of reasons. First of course is cost. By doing this a separate adapter does not need to be manufactured and it comes as standard. You don't have to use it but at least you get the option. Using the PIN header is what we absolutely recommend. It is a far better solution than no solder pogo pins or wires. Its stable, quick and easy to install, the mod can be removed with ease and replaced in seconds. No alignment, no setting up. The main benefit is that once your pin header is fitted you NEVER need to solder ANY mod into your XBOX ever again! Pin Headers are cheap (less than $1) and can be added to ANY LPC based modchip. So once installed you can use Openbox, Matrix (Without the Pogo Pins which is a $20 less cost to you) & cheapmod. It's not just for Xecuter - its a design that should be encouraged with all LPC mods.

C: This is the connector if you wish to use the wires adapter (supplied). Can also be used to connect to the pogo pin adapter - or any adapter design.

D: This is the 512k Bank selector. The mod is designed to read 2 x different 512k BIOS's. This can include 2x256k or simply 1 x 512k per bank (The 2x256k will simply read as one mirrored BIOS - it is not for two different ones). Again you can add an external switch if you wish. The mod comes pre programmed  ready to install and no programming is required. If you have an v1.0 console (Pre Aug 2002) then leave the jumper connected. If you have a v1.1  console (Post Aug 2002) or v1.2 (Post March 2002) then this jumper MUST be removed.

E: This is the mod disable jumper. The first thing we hear is that its not the best adapter to use - why not use DIP switches. The jumper pins are not only for jumpers, but you can also add your own NON SOLDER external switch. Now can you see why these used these ?  :)

F: This is the Flash Protect jumper. This is to protect the mod from any malicious erase or flash attempt. Again you can add an external switch if you wish.

One final note is this. It has been of some concern that if you programmed the mod with the wrong flash, or you made a mistake that it would kill the mod. Yes this is true but this is why its called LITE with less features and a much cheaper price. Most of you won't attempt to flash this anyway, and you should always be careful when doing so. However, team X-Ecuter are busy designing an add on cable that will simply plug into the PIN HEADER BLOCK (B) where you can program from your PC much similar to the PRO version. This will not be available yet and will not be supplied with the mods. This will be an add-on cable (which we will probably release as HOMEBREW for free - similar version of cheaplpc but designed for 1MB flash) for those that have had an accident. I hope this makes some of you happy :)

You must have:
Flux - used for a better contact and to avoid dry joints
De-solder Braid - used for cleaning solder from the board in case of mistakes
Soldering Iron -15 to 25 watt
Solder - Obvious
Screw Drivers - Torx 10 & 20 to open the box
A steady hand and good light

Below is the wiring diagram if you choose to use the supplied wiring harness. If you decide to use the header pins then the block simply locates in the the same holes. Remember to remove the pin from the left so it can locate. Take care when you install the header pins to position the earth connection at the screw as shown.

Easy.....

Once  you rebuild the console your ready to play..

If xbox doesn't boot :
- make sure ALL wires are correctly inserted (don't forget to plug-in video-output!)
- if xbox boots you should see the black XBOX logo and instead of "Microsoft"' you should see "X-ECUTER2"
- if xbox boots but not with X-ecuter2 bios ... it means your "d0" links has a problem
- if xbox boots x3 then red flashing something must be wrong with one of the LPC points.
- a multimeter is extremely usefull to check all connections. (follow traces till you see a via/point and check connection)
